New York City is one of the most well-known cities on the east cost of the United States of America. The city of New York can be seen as a fabrication of an urban metropolis, the ideas for which were communicated by Hollywood movie production. These movies from which the city of New sprung up were not meant to be descriptive of this area, instead they invented it (Wood, 1989, p. 73). Hence, the production of Hollywood movies played an instrumental role in shaping New York City, to which I will explore this trait from the late 1960’s to present day. Throughout this essay, the American New Wave Era of cinema, or the New Hollywood, and how this had an influence on the establishment of modern day New York City will be explored.
Furthermore, Hollywood cinema’s influence on the economic structure, topography, and culture of New York City will be examined. Many may not be aware that the motion picture industry was primarily housed in New York City until its relocation to Los Angeles shortly before World War I; therefore, this significant foundational link will be utilized to help dissect the heart of American cinema. A thorough investigation of the interlocking influence of Hollywood on New York City and New York City on Hollywood is set forth in paper that follows.
