I am looking for a laptop which will become my total entertainment system. It will be as powerful as many desktop computers in the market but portable that it could be taken anywhere. I will use the laptop for almost every purpose including school work but I don’t want a laptop that is just good at one thing.
The laptop I choose should be powerful enough to handle some of the most demanding video games, and also allow me to enjoy movies in high resolution. I am quite flexible in terms of the total budget because my laptop may prevent the need for certain other devices such as a video gaming console like an Xbox and an HDTV. I am looking for an investment that will be good for at least another 3-4 years. The video games and other software applications will continue to get more and more advanced and a laptop with high levels of specifications is less likely to become outdated anytime soon.

I decided to choose Alienware 17 because they specialize in gaming laptops, and the brand is owned by Dell. This means I would have access to the unrivaled customer and support service Dell is famous for. First of all, I chose one of the most powerful processors currently available that is Intel Core i7-6700HQ with 3.5 GHz. An Intel Core i7 processor can also handle most video games but I went for i7 so that it can also handle the games of tomorrow. I chose 17.3 inch screen because this laptop will be my total entertainment system. I expect to watch movies on it as frequently as I would be playing games. In order to maximize my movie experience, I even chose an expensive display option of 3840×2160 pixels which means this laptop will display movies in 4K resolution. This option set me back over $200 but the superior gaming and movie viewing experience is worth it. I also thought of other display technologies that may become more common in the near future such as 360 degree viewing and 3D movies. If such a possibility becomes reality, my laptop would be more than ready to handle new entertainment technologies. The laptop comes with a standard 8GB RAM but I upgraded my order to 16GB RAM that can be upgraded to 32GB later if the need arises. Once again I decided to upgrade the memory to 16GB so that the laptop is fully equipped to handle the gaming and video technologies of tomorrow. The laptop also comes standard with a powerful NVIDIAGeForce GTX 970M graphics card. The integrated speakers and Creative Soundblaster prove this laptop is fit to be a powerful entertainment system. As far as the software is concerned, the laptop comes bundled with software applications that are suited to video gaming and movie viewing. The only software I felt the need to purchase is Microsoft Office because I need it for school work. I did add Xbox 360 controller to my order because a controller gives you better gaming express than the laptop keyboard.

The laptop weighs 8.33 lbs and I realize it is not exactly light. But at the same time, laptops used to be this heavy not long ago. It may be a little heavy but it is still portable enough to carry around in a laptop bag. For school purpose, I may invest in a Chrome notebook that should not cost more than $200-$300. My friends have also invested in a powerful gaming laptops, and this investment would allow me to spend more quality time with my friends.
