The article gives the description of W.L. Gore & Associates that has adopted the beneficial strategy of human resource management. The company is trying to develop effective corporate culture situation developing work-like balance at the working place. Employees are not responsible to be at the working place all the time. Moreover, they even do not have to explain the reason why they are not supposed to be present at the working place. From the first sight, it is very beneficial strategy for the employees, because they can have as much of free time as possible. In addition, the employees can arrange that their work will not have negative effect on their personal life. However, often employees are prevented to use this benefit maximally because of another rule of W.L. Gore & Associates. In order to earn money and become company’s leader, employees need to work effectively and productively. As a result, considerable amount of time needs to be spent.
The management style is the company is rather loyal. It gives an opportunity for the employees to share the tome effectively between the working place and their families and home (Heathfield, 2016). Friendly and cooperative atmosphere is developed within the W.L. Gore & Associates Company. That is why management of the company is not settled by the company owner. Managers are formed on the basis of their leadership in the company and amount trust from the followers. That is why the participative type of leadership is taking place at the work-life balance type of the organization. The participative leadership style is most democratic among all of the styles (Johnson, n. d.). According to this management style, all employees are involved in the decision making process in order to make effective decision. At the same time, all of the employees feel responsible for the general goals and objectives reach.
There is no doubt that employees in different countries have various approaches to work and corporate culture. Such variations are caused by cultural, ethical and historical peculiarities that take place in country. For example, German business entities are used to command and hierarchal type of running business (Sarosi, 2016). Considering the fact that most of German companies are using autocratic type of leadership, the vertical management type is followed in each department. Similar situation in management styles take place in France and Spain, although they are more loyal to the point of view of employees (Sarosi, 2016). As for the Asian region, for example Japan, all important decisions are made by the top management and executives (Sarosi, 2016). In addition, top management is holding strong monitoring and control over all processes at the enterprise. Thus, considering different approaches to work in countries, work-life balance cannot be implemented in many countries, including European and Asian geographic regions. The work-life balance approach to work is most suitable for the US companies.
Analyzing the article “Organizational Culture and Working Hours at W.L. Gore &Associates, Inc.”, the conclusion can be done that work-life balance approach to work is rather beneficial, although it cannot be adopted at each enterprise. That is why at least some elements should be implemented by other companies in order to improve their corporate strategy. One of the core advices is changing the structure of life (Lee, 2014). Giving employees more time for their personal life in case all their direct tasks and responsibilities are fulfilled will be very beneficial for corporate culture development of many companies. At the same time, business efficiency will not be harmed because an employee will be motivated to fulfill the work faster.
